Designed to take personal bias out of the decision-making process when considering a child for whole-grade acceleration, the IAS was developed and piloted by the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development at the University of Iowa. It ensures that acceleration decisions are systematic, thoughtful, well-reasoned, defensible, and as objective as possible. These supplemental Forms and Summary and Planning Records are for replenishing the supply of Forms when a school has already purchased the initial kit and has used the 10 Forms that came with that kit. Third edition Forms are for schools that are using the third edition Manual.

The third edition features:

  • Overall refined material based on experience and research
  • A revised list of required ability and aptitude tests
  • A clearer format to make it easier to use
  • Clarification of item scores
  • Updated research on acceleration

The differences between the 3rd edition and the Iowa Acceleration Scale 2nd edition are that it contains updated research and slightly refined scoring and allows for use of the CogAt test for ability testing.
